Sale Drop Off Tonight
Monday, March 16, 2009
Meeting Minutes from 3/12/09
Spring Sale
-Our normal outdoor space (the West Bank Plaza) is unavailable. Clarance has invited the group to sell during the Arts Quarter end of semester party, happening on Friday, May 8th. As a consequence, the sale will be one day only. Mel wants to reconfirm before concrete plans are made.
-Sam has agreed to work with the Bohemian Press on a design for the posters/postcards.
-Lauren suggested revisiting the idea of accepting credit cards, either through paypal or setting up an Etsy account. Jessica will research our options.
Make-a-Thon (aka the Make-a-Ton!)
The make-a-thon is scheduled for April 4th, starting at noon in the throwing room. New member Maggie has volunteered to be in charge of the food/posters.
That's it! See you on the 2nd.

Meeting Minutes from 2/26/09
Couldn't make the meeting? Here's what you missed. The next meeting will be March 12 at 5:00.
Fall
Mel presented our options for getting space at Coffman Union for the next fall sale. Student groups have two options, either a "contact table" on the lower level, or renting a conference room on the third floor. The most likely option would be to do both, and use the contact table as a way to drive traffic to the sale on the third floor. Lauren suggested hosting a preview party at Regis the night before. Mel expressed concerns over the amount of work necessary to have the sale at Coffman, but the possibility of being able to leave the merchandise there overnight would alleviate some of those concerns. It was decided to go ahead and reserve the space in Coffman, and decide closer to the sale date if the option will be workable.
Spring
Beatrice had a meeting with Nicole from the Bohemian Press. They would prefer a 3-day sale, but opinion among SCC members was that it would be too difficult to organize/staff and would like to stick with 2 days. Beatrice will continue talks and see if we can reach a compromise. It was also suggested by the Bohemian Press that we collaborate with them on the poster/postcard design. No one present volunteered, but a few names were suggested for students who might be willing to work on our behalf. We will be pushing for screen-printed posters, and several SCC members volunteered to assistance if needed. In order to avoid rush fees from the printer, the goal is to have the artwork into the printer one month in advance of the sale date. It was also agreed the two groups would split advertising costs and we should start the advertising 2 weeks out.
Recruitment
Beatrice, with help from Meghan, will be organizing a recruitment push for the next meeting (March 12). Class visits and posters will be organized to draw new members, and the group will provide food and short presentation about the Collective and what we do.
Visiting Artist
Kim Dickey has been confirmed for April 30-31. The room for the public lecture is reserved and Mel is talking to Clarence about further art department involvement. The extra cost for the public lecture is unknown at this point. She will be purchasing her own plane ticket and the collective will reimburse her. Depending on the time and date of her arrival, there is the possibility of a welcome party/potluck the evening before. Mark Pharis has offered to host, but arrangements will need to be made for transportation if we choose that option. It was suggested that members could volunteer to drive and be reimbursed if necessary. Discussions will continue.
NCECA
Meghan has been approached by Kelsey about receiving a stipend for NCECA. There were various viewpoints presented, and some group members were worried about the establishing a precedent. It could also be a way to encourage alumni participation in the sales. The point was made that in Kelsey's case was a unique situation, as she had participated in the fall sale but graduated before the NCECA funds are distributed. The group consensus is that, in this unique set of circumstances and given Kelsey's excellent contribution during her tenure as the Collective's president, she will receive the same stipend as current group members. Exceptions will be considered in similar circumstances in the future, but alumni in general still remain ineligible to receive NCECA funds regardless of sale participation after graduation.
Misc.
-Beatrice presented the idea of hosting a Ceramics Collective show for current and former members, as a way to encourage participation for those working sculpturally. Meghan questioned the need to make it exclusive to sculpture. Possible venues presented were a "boiler room" with Diane or the Art of this Gallery this summer. Discussions of venue, jury/curators, etc. will continue. Lauren also suggested preparing submission packets for distribution in November if no venue is found.
-Chris is continuing to pursue options for selling at the Powderhorn art fair and will update the group as information becomes available.

Meeting Minutes from 2/12/09
The dates for the spring sale will be April 28-29 (Tues and Wed). This is a change from the dates established last semester in order to accommodate our visiting artist. James, Jessica and Beatrice will be heading up the sale committee.
Visiting Artist
Kim Dickey is confirmed for April 30-31 for a public lecture and demo. Mel is working out the details of lodgings, itinerary, etc.
NCECA
Compensation for those attending NCECA has been tentatively set, with the option for a possible increase in funds if the budget allows. In addition, there has been discussion over the possibility of asking those receiving funds to volunteer some time watching the university's table.
Next meeting will be this Thursday, February 26 at 5:30. As always, we'll be meeting in the handbuilding studio.

Meeting Minutes from 2/5/09
NCECA
Reviewed the policy for distribution of funds for students planning on attending NCECA in April. In line with previous semesters, a member must have participated in the December sale in order to be eligible for NCECA funds. The amount of money per person will be determined after a budget review and will depend upon available funds as well as the number of participants.
Visiting Artist
The group was asked to decide on dates for visiting artist Kim Dickey. The two options under consideration are April 23-24, and April30-May1. Due to possible conflicts with the dates for the spring sale, a final decision has been postponed until next meeting. Also discussed was whether the lecture should be open to the general public. This option is more expensive, but additional funding maybe available from the ceramics class' visiting artist budget. Mel will inquire about the possibility of using the In Flux space for the presentation. Again, final decision is delayed until dates are finalized.
Misc
-Megan suggested planning now for any possible summer field trips. Please be thinking of any studios, galleries, or other arts related destinations that maybe options for the group.
-Jessica will be looking into contact information for possible locations for the fall sale.
-Megan, James and Chris will research opportunities for participating in local craft fairs over the summer.
-Elaine, Chris and Beatrice will make informational visits to the beginning and intermediate classes to promote the collective and recruit new members.
